What is wood pellet? In fact, wood pellet is a kind of new biomass and renewable energy, which takes wood waste, branches, bark, sawdust and other solid wastes from furniture and wood products as raw materials through crushing, pressurizing and densifying of wood pellet plant, then "wood pellet" can be produced. Wood pellet is the most common fuel used in the pellet stove.

1. Source of raw materials of wood pellet
The most common materials are wastes from furniture factory and wood processing plants. The branches and bark can also be used to process wood pellet with wood pellet plant after processing and crushing by the hammer mill. You can also use the orchard pruning and other biomass materials to produce wood pellet fuel.

2. The advantages of wood pellet

Wood pellet of small size allows precise adjustment of fuel supply. In other words, it is more easily to adjust the combustion air and achieve the best efficiency. The amount of fuel in the combustion chamber is predictable and consistent. High combustion efficiency can be achieved due to the uniform and low moisture content of wood pellet (always less than 10%, compared with the building blocks of 20-60% moisture content). The uniform low humidity, controllable fuel batches and precise adjustment of fuel combustion air means high heat output and low emissions.
Besides clean combustion, the use of wood pellet fuel also brings environmental benefits. As biomass fuel, wood pellet provides sustainable energy supplies through the advantage of renewable raw materials. The utilization of wood pellet also help to reduce the cost of waste treatment.

3. The differences between wood pellet fuel
The raw material of standard pellet fuel (with ash content up to 3%) usually produces more ashes, such as wood barks (it contains many impurities) or agricultural residues like nut shells. Standard particles should be used in designated pellet stoves.

High quality pellet fuel (with less than 1% of ash content) is usually made of hardwood or cork wood excluding barks. The ash content of quality fuel of western hardwood is about 0.3% and the eastern hardwood is about 0.7%. At present, the production of high quality wood pellet accounts for more than 95% of the pellet production. The high quality pellet fuel can be used in special standard or quality fuel pellet stoves. With the improving of ash resistance of pellet stove, the availability of standard fuel is expected to improve.
Ash content determines the level of fuel due to its role in the maintenance frequency. It is the main factor influencing maintenance frequency of ash removing of the equipment and ventilation system. In the early design of pellet stove, fuel compatibility is a key factor to determine whether the stove works well. While the fuel level and specific ash content are still need to be considered. The progress in pellet stove technology makes the choice of fuel more extensive and more easy.
